10 Books we would recommend

by Ramesh Shrinivasan last modified 2007-05-15 16:34

The best book on Oracle ever? Regardless, Tom Kyte's "expert one-on-one Oracle" remains one of the best sources to understand and learn how Oracle works. Sadly though the publishers of the regular edition Wrox Publishers went out of business, you can still buy the hardcover edition titled "Expert Oracle Signature Edition". This edition covers Oracle versions upto 8i, if you are interested in a more recent version look at the second entry in this list.

You can read reviews about the book here.

The first of three volumes, this book is titled "Expert Oracle Database Architecture" and is published by Apress. This volume covers what Tom considers to be the most important of Oracle architecture features. As a bonus, you get a fully seachable pdf version of the Expert One-On-One book on a CD.

Though the book was written keeping Oracle 8i in mind, this book should be compulsory reading for developers along with Tom Kyte's books.

Another Tom Kyte book, this book is titled "Effective Oracle by Design" and published by Oracle Press. Compared to Tom's earlier one-on-one book, this book is slightly more conceptual in nature, and is focused more on designing Oracle systems the right way.
